Back in 2017 I watched a very eye opening documentary on YouTube called Human by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. It was eye opening to me because we are all doing the same thing, no matter where you are from we are all trying to live our best lives. Nothing is actually foreign, It’s us who created lines and boxes, or walls and stereotypes, or prejudices and preferences. But at the end of the day we all just want to live well and satisfied with life.
Here is a thought provoking quote from the documentary by an older man from Uruguay.
“Either your joy is with very little, without overburdening yourself, because you have joy inside, or… You will get no where. I am not an advocate for poverty. I am an advocate for sobriety. But, we invested a consumer society-Which is continuously seeking growth. Where there is no growth it’s tragic. We invest in a mountain of superfluous needs, you have to keep buying and throwing away… It is our lives we are squandering. When we buy something, we’re not paying with money. We are paying with the time of our lives we had to spend to earn that money.
The difference is that you can’t buy life, life just goes by, and it’s terrible to waste your life, losing your freedom.“
